I’ve been listening to Malvina Reynolds recently and I just love her. She’s mainly known as a songwriter and had a few hits in the 60s with songs like Little boxes, Morningtown ride but she also wrote children’s songs and was Kate in season 4 of Sesame Street.
What I particularly like is her own recordings, the voice is a bit rogue, the delivery not so smooth and even in the sixties she looked like she was your grandma; admittedly a granny with an acidic tongue, but still, there should be more people like her writing songs.
Here she is hanging out with Pete Seeger and Ramblin’ Jack Elliott.
Further listening: Malvina Reynolds was recorded in 1971 and has members of the Byrds and Clark & Dillard backing her on the album.
