Charlie Burse – Ukulele jug band man
Charlie Burse was a member of Will Shade’s, Memphis Jug Band. A master of numerous instruments – especially the ukulele, which earned him the nick name “Uke Kid Burse” for his troubles – Charlie seemed like my kind of guy. he was described by folk as obnoxius and abusive, basically, a punk before his time. I think, though I’m not sure of this, that Burse actually played the tenor guitar most of the time, especially with the Jug Band but they’ve both got 4 strings, so I’ll let him off.
I think the video shows that this man was a dude of the highest order. Teeth missing, plaid shirt, dobro tenor guitar. Basically, I want to be him.
Snail Ukulele
Sorry, been a bit slack lately with posting. Here’s a rather fetching snail ukulele that I spied on etsy. Poor old snails really don’t get all that much love so this is a nice offering.
