The other half of the novelty duo I play in suggested that hip-hop was under represented on the blog and supplied a few links. The first is a video. Its hip-hop, on a ukulele and in a library. Word.
ukulele tiki shot glass
Had lots on of late, so the blog has been a little dormant. Sorry. However, shall have more time soon, hopefully.
Here’s a novelty item to tied you over. Yes, a tiki playing a ukulele and it’s a shot glass to boot. Sadly it’s now been retired from the shop, but I’m sure you can find something similar kicking around on ebay or the internet.
Robert Crumb’s ukulele Ike silkscreen
Robert Crumb, like MC Hammer, is a lover of big butts, but besides that he’s also a seminal underground comic book writer and a lover of music with a huge collection of 78 records. So it’s no surprise that he’s a fan of ukulele Ike and produced this tribute, I’m a bear in a lady’s boudoir. It’s a silkscreen print, edition of 300 signed and numbered by Crumb. There’s a few knocking around the internet.
If you’re not familiar with Robert Crumb then there’s a brilliant documentary called, Crumb, by Terry Zwigoff.
Sugar Kane playing the uke, Some Like it Hot
I’m sure many of you have seen this before, but as the great Tony Curtis passed away recently, I think it’s certainly worth watching again, and it’s Marilyn Monroe playing the ukulele.
Ukulele Ike, Blame it on a ukulele
I love ukulele Ike. He was one of Buster Keaton’s homies, enough said.
