Beirut – Rip Tide album

Over the last couple of days I’ve given the new Beirut album a few spins as I’m off to see them soon.  It sounds good and it sounds like Beirut.   Lots of searing vocals and stuff like that.

The below track is the album closer.  I’m not 100% sure what the instrument is on the track below.  I don’t think it’s a ukulele but I might be wrong.

Beirut – O Leaozinho

Not sure when the album is released but apparently there was some kind of loft event last night for Red Hot + Rio 2.  Nice looking ukulele Zach’s playing there.

Beirut cover of a Caetano Veloso song, which I believe is on the Red Hot + Rio 2 album, a Brazilian inspired cover compilation, featuring St Vincent, Dirty Projectors, Beck, Tom Zé and Os Mutantes.  It’s scheduled for release on the 28th of June, 2011.  Looks like it’ll be good.

Zach Condon of Beirut in Vogue

Zach Condon stars in Vogue photoshoot.

Zach Condon, of Beirut Fame, recently had his photo in the January edition of Vogue.  It’s an article where they just dress up young indie stars in designer clothes and also stars The Horrors and a few other bands.  Pleasingly, rather than clutching a trumpet or ukulele, his normal instruments of choice, Zach’s got a cavaquinho in his grasp.  The instrument originates from Portugal – there’s more on the instrument on wikipedia.
